HMTT 6003 INSTRUCTIONAL TECHNOLOGY DEVELOPMENT TOOLS

University: Open University Malaysia
Lecturer: Dr Steve Carlise

GOALS

  • To provide a framework for a real-life experience in developing and designing a fully online course in their area of specialization.  In the process they will learn all the implications and corollaries involved in planning and reporting before implementation of an online course or system.

  • To design a complete course in their area of specialization

DESCRIPTION

The Instructional Technology Developmental Tools module is focused at being trained to use authoring tools and instructional design principles to create an online course.  The type of authoring tool may vary as much as the method of instructional design that can be used during the course.  Since this course was done on the aftermath of several basic modules, it follows that the teaching materials in this module did not elaborate extensively on the types of Instructional design but was mostly concerned the use of instructional design to create a course. â€‹

Reflections

This module was very helpful at putting Instructional Design theories into practice with the use of authoring tools and Learning Management Systems.  It gave me the opportunity to review the creation of a course via the ADDIE model and set up the building blocks on the Canvas Instructure LMS.  Both of the above were new to me although, in theory, I’ve been able to view the operations of ADDIE and Canvas.  The type and quality of artifacts used, had to be carefully chosen in order to deliver quality as well as pedagogically-sound instructions.  Moreover, the organization of the content is primordial and could be a very important element at deciding whether the LMS is a success or not.
